About Kamyar Shahedi, MD
Dr. Shahedi’s reputation for his knowledge and expertise makes him a top sought board-certified Gastroenterologist in Santa Monica and the West Side. As a native of Los Angeles, Dr. Shahedi completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA at the top of his class with Summa Cum Laude before attending the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, where he again graduated top of his class.
He returned to Los Angeles, where he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center. He also served as an Attending Associate Instructor of Medicine there before completing his fellowship specialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the distinguished University of California, Davis Health System. Dr. Shahedi completed advanced training in advanced Therapeutic Endoscopic Interventions and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography and pancreaticobiliary diseases with honors.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, Dr. Shahedi treats all Gastroenterology disorders of the stomach, small intestine, liver, esophagus, gallbladder, and pancreas, including dyspepsia, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. He also performs various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including Colonoscopy, upper endoscopies (EGD), capsule endoscopies, and breath tests. Dr. Shahedi is among a select few Gastroenterologists with expertise in pancreaticobiliary diseases who have advanced training in and perform advanced endoscopic therapeutic interventions and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
Besides his medical practice, Dr. Shahedi is actively involved in research and has presented his findings at various national conferences. He has authored numerous publications in distinguished peer-reviewed medical journals and online guidelines that are referred to by other physicians and patients. He is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Shahedi enjoys traveling with his wife, playing music and piano, photography, and giving back to the community through volunteer work and serves as a volunteer staff where he instructs medical students and residents.

It took about a month and a half for me to get this appointment. I was hoping I would be able to see this provider faster. But Dr. Shahedi took the time to listen to my issue, didn't rush out of the room. Recommended a medication that I could take only when absolutely necessary and I am grateful for that. He added his comments to my chart and that is important because I was able to later review and read his comments later again.

Dr. Is very good at his practice. He was a bit abrupt but still respectful. I felt confident in his expertise. I had never needed a specialist and he suggested I could have a tumor really directly so it was scary but he was really good about explaining. My symptoms are frustrating to me. He made me feel confident in his skills I just wasn't ready to hear (nor ever considered) I had a tumor. I respect his skills. Practicing medicine, in general, is an art as well as a in my view and I appreciate he was probing to find solution to inconsistent symptoms.

There was some confusion over my insurance at the front desk, probably partially related to problems with referrals from my primary, but it got sorted. Dr. Shahedi was great. I think I covered more with him than any other doctor I've ever seen. I tried to make an in-person appointment with Dr. Shahedi, but the front desk person told me I would have to wait three weeks. I had something that needed a more immediate appointment. So I emailed Dr. Shahedi. Much to my surprise, the next day, the office staff called and set up a video visit that same day. To me, that was extraordinary. The key takeaways are that 1) Dr. Shahedi saw and read my email in a timely manner and 2) recognized that waiting three weeks to see him was too long, so he scheduled the video visit. I only needed 10 minutes to get his recommendation, and I'll be getting the CT scan he suggested this week. This is the FASTEST response I've ever had from this group, and I greatly appreciated it. My situation did not require an ER visit, but it was something that needed attention right away. It was too gastroenterology-specific to make urgent care an option.
